There is no single Catholic Church abuse lawsuit, MDL, or class action. Many dioceses filed for bankruptcy after states relaxed their statutes of limitations for childhood sexual abuse. The Archdiocese of Los Angeles agreed in 2024 to pay $880 million to more than 1,000 survivors, a bankruptcy court confirmed a $323 million plan for the Diocese of Rockville Centre on December 4, 2024, and a federal judge approved a settlement of at least $230 million for the Archdiocese of New Orleans in December 2025.
